As I get ready for my bout at UFC 118, Im realzing how much Im spending and figured I would give my loyal readers(and guests that have never even been to my site) some insight into the cost of putting a fight camp together.
Trainers: I had to bring my team in and although most guys have been working with me for free, I still have to pay others and I have a solid IOU set up for those that havent been paid yet. This has already cost me over $1000, with a good amount more coming after the bout.
Management. Cant talk about the portion I give to management, but its substantial(Hey, Ive got good management and I have no problem paying the Management team) Just for reference, most management deals are between 15 and 30% of a fighter purse/sponsorship.
Food/supplementation: Food is fuel and I like to put the best possible fuel in my jet. I eat organic and go to health food stores for my groceries. This is more expensive, but worth it. For a fight, I spend between $400 and $500 a week on food. Supplements also are expensive. I keep my supplements pretty basic, but it still adds up. Grass fed Whey protein, Joint supplement(MSN, Chondroiton, Glucosomine), daily vitamin, Collagen and Glutamine. Adds up to roughly $200-$300
Travel: Now, the UFC pays for one corner, but I like having my people with me, so I pay out of pocket to ensure that I have the proper support group. 2 extra plane tickets = $1200, plus I have to get these jokers a hotel room lets add another $1000 for that.
Miscellaneous: Yoga($15 a class), massage($50 a visit, Thanks Bonnie Terry for the incredible discount, your worth WAY more than that), Chiropractor($65 a visit), Gas to get to practice (At least $60 a week). Im sure Im missing a bunch of things, but Im afraid to add this up already
So this 2.5 week camp has cost roughly over $5000...ugggh, now that hurt. You know what though? Its worth it.
