I will be fighting February 21st at the Tachi Palace to defend my lightweight belt. There is one huge difference to this fight that sets it apart from any other. It is my last one. I've decided to retire after this bout. I've spent over 11 years fighting MMA professionally and its time to close that chapter of my life. Here is me saying I'm retiring and this will be my last fight, not some stupid MMA site that pretends to be a "news" site.

There are many things I was not able to do in MMA that I wanted to, but there are also a lot of things I never expected to do that I had the opportunity to. I've been a world champion in two separate legitimate organizations(WEC and TPF), fought in the UFC, met and made friends with some truly amazing people and for that I'm grateful.  I just turned 35 and have dealt with minor injuries and some very serious ones and although my age is not old, my body has taken more than its share of punishment. My nose has been broken countless times, broke my hand, countless eye injuries,  neck was fused in 2008, back surgery in 2011. I'm sure I'm still missing a whole bunch more, but you get the idea. My body has taken more than enough. I am also more focused on my family and ensuring that they are well taken care of and lets face it, unless you are a top tier talent there is no real money in the long run in MMA.

I started competing in MMA as a test to see if I could rise to the occasion. It was never looked at as a career. When I started there was no money, no fame, no recognition. Its amazing to see how the sport has grown and Im glad to have been a part of it in some way. I will continue to be involved in MMA in one way or another and will continue teaching and progressing as a martial artist, just not as a competitor

I am putting 100% into this final training camp to ensure I go out with nothing to look back on and regret and to put everything I have on the line one more time. Its going to be a full circle for me. My first fight was in the WEC at the Tachi Palace and now my last fight will be at the Tachi Palace. Hopefully those that care will be there to watch me enter the cage one more time, for the last time.

Mate, I've tried calling ya a bunch, but it always goes straight to voice mail...and you know i don't play that shit yo lol

If you've changed your number nev, email me that shit yo so i can be in touch before christmas.

The ride aint ever over homie, it's just on a different track now, and on your terms.

No-one can ever take what you've accomplished away from you. no-one, not even you bud.

You may not have accomplished what you might have wanted to, but compared to me and the rest of the joe blows out there.....you've accomplished a hell of alot, not just in mma mate...and not just in bjj or in sports in general.

All the best my friend, put everything you have into this camp, and then go on and enjoy all that lays ahead for you and yours...it's time, and you deserve too.

you earnt it mate.

talk to you soon.
cheers.

mike.
